The Recovery Star:

  • Values service users perspectives and enables empowerment and choice
  • Supports recovery and social inclusion
  • Is holistic, covering all the major dimensions linked to recovery

The recovery star looks at 10 areas of an individuals life, with each area assessed to see where an individual is on the ‘ladder’ of each section:

  • Managing mental health
  • Relationships
  • Physical health and self-care
  • Addictive behaviour
  • Living skills
  • Responsibilities
  • Social networks
  • Identify and self-esteem
  • Work
  • Trust and hope

Service users are able to see clear evidence of their progress and their involvement in the process, which improves motivation, enhances their skills and builds confidence. For commissioners, The Recovery Star demonstrates that key care objectives are being met and that outcomes are being delivered.

A Progressive Care Pathway towards Independence

We have over fifteen years’ experience in supporting the progress of individuals whose mental health is affected by personality disorder, anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, depression, mood affective disorders, self-harm behaviour, suicidal ideation, substance misuse backgrounds. Our focus is on recovery. The recovery star is integral to our assessment and care planning processes.

Success With The Recovery Star Model

At Khaya, we aim to provide success for service users from short term goals in their daily lives to long term goals in achieving greater levels of independence.  As part of our culture in helping services users ’to succeed’, we use the recovery star model, an outcomes-based measurement tool recognised by the Department of Health. By using the recovery star, we are able to support service users recovery by measuring progress in areas including managing their mental health, enhancing living skills, building and maintaining social networks and building self-esteem to maximise independence.
